*bump post*
i did a research im many forums (took me approx. 3 hours all together) to get the answer for "what´s the best controlling unit....
1. for shooters"
2. beat ´em up (4 or less buttons required)"
3. beat ´em up (4-8 buttons required)"
4 all the other games".
gamepad or arcade-like joystick?
price?
soft buttons, like the ones from original japanese arcade machines, with extra sensitive reaction where a criteria for me.
where is it available?
pc and/or xbox and/or ps 1,2,3 and or......
i started with sf3 3rd strike yesterday and my fingers hurt from playing with the keyboard....i know the moves but i´m not able to perform them (always) with it. i have a chamaleon wirelass gamepad aswell but it just sucks and after 30 mins u believe ur thumb is burning cause of the sucky-sharp cross. -.-
i came to the solution that...i have no clue -.- atm the namco arcade stick is my no1 choice but there´s nothing available in my region. so i bump this post here ´cause the romnation forum helped me so often in so many questions. maybe in this one as well :o
what i need to know:
beat ´em up with 6 or more buttons...do u use a gamepad or an arcade-stick-like joyboard? why (precision, speed...)? which?

That link is actually a really nice thing to have, beats any gamepad. I would want a single one only though. These silly things they sell that come in pairs or more, they usually are too close together, but I mentioned this before months earlier on this thread.

I don't know about everyone else, but I can't use a keyboard, that's for sure. I can get away doing the moves, but moving around with precision is impossible for me. I've always been stuck just on gamepad. Arcade-stick? I wish. I want one of those, but I can't find the single player ones. I mean actual arcade parts here, not some cheesy imitation. Capcom used to make some, but I can't find where to buy them. Maybe they stopped making them and just went the 'cheesy imitation' way, and those I have found.

what about the wii classic control pad?? its based on the snes and n64 pads my bud doesn't have one so I can't comment on how good or bad it is worth a shot
i've never had a problem using the keyboard never been a issue for me guess i've always found it easy to adapt

Link 3 still didn't work for me.
I mentioned the slikstik several times in this post, but that quad one is kind of ridiculous. I'd rarely need 2p much less 4. And yes, it is expensive, and I wouldn't even have room for it unless I go around carrying it between rooms. What they need to do is make a single player version. But this one is the only one that I've seen that assures it uses real arcade parts, that's what they claim anyways and I don't see many complaints.

it links to the "product of the day". just type "MOD it arcade stick" at the top first field (Suche=Search) and it will show the stick (Nr.3).
the hori sticks are build with sanwa parts, the MAS uses the stuff from american arcade machines.
i found a modding site for arcade sticks aswell, many users there recommend the "Pelican Real Arcade Stick". they just switch the original buttons with sanwa parts and change the stick itself with another one. if you need a link to the page and a link where to get the parts, just tell me. the site is in english then btw. (--->have to work, no time for research now)

Yeah, I've seen those controllers before. The Hori stick is out for me since even if it uses arcade controller parts, they are the Japanese kind. And I'd have to order it from there anyways. The rest that do use the American style parts are wired so hot that they are defective. Not great quality there. The slikstik arch is the only one I've seen that doesn't get these kinds of complaints and it specifically made for PC anyways, though appearently more flexible for other systems. Make a 1p version you fools!
Anyways, I kind-of-fixed this latest cheap gamepad I got, all it took was some loosening. To be honest, someone suggested getting a saturn pad but this pad is just about the same quality as saturn and 6-button genesis pads. That is, gets the job done, but is a bit wonky. I had a genesis for a while with one, it never failed but it wasn't that great. I never owned a Saturn but I did play it a few times at Toys R Us.

Sry 2 bug but i figured that this was a more likely place to ask than starting my own thread. I'm new 2 roms and was wondering 3 things.
1. r there gamepads that are only compatible with certain emulators?
2. which would u recommend for snes and n64 roms?
3. can u play 2 player games with 2 gamepads or does one have 2 use the keyboard?
Emulators: snes9x, project64, 1964 and nebula 2.25b(if can figure out how to use it)

1.- If the emulator supports USB pads, then it does'nt matter the model or brand... i use Snes9x, Zsnes,Visualboy Advance, Mame32, Gens, Magic Engine, FCE Ultra and ePSexe...
2.- Well, for Snes of course any pad with the same button layout (4 buttons in the front, 2 shoulder, 2 center buttons for select and start, and the D-pad)
The N64 has that "unique" controls, so unless you can find one of those N64 pad to USB adaptoids, it's going to be really hard to find a substitute, however, i beated StarFox 64, Paper Mario, Banjo Kazooie and... that game, where you destroy the city... damn... what's the name?? anyways... i beated these games with a regular PS clone...
3.- Ive never seen any emulator that supports just one pad, i think it will depend of how many USB ports your PC has... sometimes we use 3-4 pads simultaneously and they work fine.

Talking about Winblows of course, it depends on DirectInput and if the emulator implements it. It doesn't matter if it's USB, gameport, or anything else as long as it registers with DirectInput when installed, which is all there is on WinNT (2000 and later). Only really dinky emulators don't support this these days. In other words, any new PC gamepad will do, and of course the vast majority are USB, and that is sure better than keyboard.

If you play a lot of fighting games, its worth shelling out the extra bucks to get the SEGA Saturn USB controllers. I picked up two of them off ebay for like 35 a piece. There is nothing that can perform on the same level as these when it comes to fighting games. I also bought a PS2 compatible pair because I could never go back to using a normal controller to play SF.
Here is a link with the description and pictures:

I'll pass. USB 1.1? that's not a good sign.
