OK, ive been using mame for a while i have been using mame32 0.111 and was wondering how on earth does one play games like cruisin usa or shooter games like area 51. I cant seem to figure out any sort of controls what so ever, i am using the 360 controller so maybe i am thinking that i need like a wheel for like cruisin and i dunno a weird light gun for games like area 51. I am in search of answers and have come up short, so maybe some one can help me out?

hi heroin!
you can play area51 with a mouse. just go to mame "default game settings"---->controllers---> check off "enable mouse input". i don´t own the area 51 rom anymore, so i don´t know if you can reload with the right mousebutton or if u have to shoot beneath the screen. if you have to shoot beneath the screen, what you can´t in mame using a mouse, have a look in the control section INGAME (press TAB while the game is running) and look for something like "reload on/off".
i play the cruis´n usa/world series with a joystick....you can use a joypad or the keyboard aswell.

All I had to do when I started up Area51 was turn on the mouse support in the options screen. I didn't play with the options at all inside of the game. If you just turn it on the mouse support, I think that you will find that the game runs just find, it seems to work on most of the "light gun" games, and I haven't had any problems with it at all. I never tinker with the controls after the game is running, if I can get the mouse to work, or the joystick to work without the problem.
Mame32 allows you to turn that on outside of the game and is the front-end that I use, and I never really have to touch things once I get that running. So there is a quick answer for you, just try that out and see if it works.

same here as grocklon told you. after the mouse works once it´s done.
for example: i got point blank running for 2 players (2 mice) and had to change the direction "RIGHT" for the second mouse to a keyboard button ("H"). i pressed "H" at the controls menu and automatically the normal mouse direction was still there (H or Mouse direction x).
still got probs with it heroin?
