Hi all i've had this question for some time now....

you all know NINTENDO's major mascot is: Mario.

XBOX/Microsoft has: Master Chief

however i never seem to see who's fronting SONY/PSX... for a time i thought it was Solid Snake, then Crash Bandicoot, and now Ratchet & Clank.... does any1 really know who SONY is using to represent them?

research and my opinion: there is none.

like you said, for PS1 and PSP it was crash bandicoot...but still always unofficial.

ratchet&clank is ps3 exclusive, yes. is that enough for a "mascot-status"? dunno :o

my question is: why did nintendo choose an italian to be there mascot?

As for that Mario thing, it all came about gradually, when Donkey Kong was first released, Mario didn't even have a name, he was simply known as 'Jumpman.'
Then, when he started appearing in more and more games, the big shots at Nintendo figured he needed a name. As I remember, they named him after the real-life janitor in the Nintendo building, or something like that.
As for Sony's mascot, 'dunno,' but I vote for Ivy in the upcoming Soul Calibur IV. Big Grin

"Jumpman", the protagonist of Donkey Kong, was called "Mario" in certain promotional materials for the game's release overseas.[3][4] His namesake was Mario Segale, the landlord of Nintendo of America's office,[5] who barged in on a meeting to demand an overdue rent payment.[6][7]

Restrictions in the mid-1980s; with limited pixels and colors, the programmers could not animate Mario's movement without making his arms "disappear". Making his shirt a solid color and giving him overalls fixed this. They also did not have the space to give him a mouth or ears, and they could not animate hair, so Mario got a moustache, sideburns, and a cap to bypass these problems. Mario's creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, has stated when interviewed that Mario wears a cap because he finds it difficult to draw hair.[9]

I dont think the 2 cats are for the PLAYSTATION i think i saw them from a Generic SONY TV/electronics comercial... but WIKIPEDIA did say thatSONY never really took on an OFFICIAL Mascot... they had CRASH BANDICOOT, then RATCHET.... and so on... BUT because these were 3rd party characters they were not oficially SONY's plus they did show up on other systems so they werent even SONY exclusive...

what kind of mascot would fit to Sony/Playstation in your opinion?

what do you first think off when you hear the name "Sony" or "Playstation"?

if you had to create a Sony/Playstation mascot, how would it be like?

i will think about that myself a bit :o

that is a good idea MALEK! hmm lets see... Sony's always boasting "superior graphics" and all that stuff... well right off id say something LIKE Crash Bandicoot or Ratchet & Clank... but if i had to go something similar to Master Chief... hmmm... maybe some sort of Alien fellow silvery, ummm... big black eyes.. wait Alien Wear computers has that as a mascot dont they...? hmm... wait i gt it u know the show BEN 10? well there's one alien that Ben turns into that i would copy/imitate its the speedy one, XLR8, when it has its mask on...

The only problem with Sony Mascots up to this point is that they been 3rd party and have been on other systems.

so, sony is too lazy to create one or it´s part of the marketing strategy to have none. that would not be completly negative....for example some people don´t like nintendo because of their childish, lollipop-colour-mario :o

That does seem to be the case for SONY.... granted Nintnedo has Mario and he seems Kiddy but atleast they have someone/thing that people can Identify... sony... all they have is the logo...

I think for awhile, SONY had tomb raider as a mascot...

And has anyone noticed the font of "Playstation 3" and the Spiderman font are the same? Click Personally, it pisses me off on a few different levels because it shows somewhat how sony might be lazy. It's a movie. And the PS3 is a console, why the fuck did they do that? I digress...

I think SONY is just too lazy to get their own mascot... I used to be a sony fanboy, but for many different reasons I have started to build a hate towards them.

yeah i noticed that too. the spiderman 3 and ps3 logos are the same, and coincidentally they both are a big disappointment for their fans who anxiously anticipated their arrival for years...LOL

I too noticed the fonts were similar, for a while i thought that when i saw the 3, it was Spiderman 3 ad, but turned out to be PS3, and vice-versa.
