| What does a J, U, and an E at the end of a ROM title mean? |
 |
Hi, everyone. I found this page that tells what the codes at the end of the ROMs mean.
http://www.andysroms.com/?page=codes
But what does it mean if there's a J, a U, and an E at the end of the ROM title? If anyone knows the answer for sure, please tell me.
Thanks in advance if anyone helps me with this.

Thanks for responding, Malek-IK. I appreciate that. But that still doesn't tell me what it means when there's a J, U and an E at the end of a ROM title all at the same time. I mean, it would seem like that would mean that the ROM is a Japanese, United States and European ROM all at the same time, but...that doesn't seem to make any sense. I just don't get why a lot of the ROMs have all three of those codes on them.
Does anyone know why a lot of the ROMs have all three of those letters? What does that mean?

you can change the dip switches to the language you prefer.
for example street fighter3:3rd strike. when you download and run the game without changing anything, the special arts are written in japanese letters. i can´t read that :o change the dip switch vom "japan" to "europe" in the ingame menu of mame and they will be shown in english.
is it that what you mean?

Oh, okay, I think I get it, and if I understand correctly, that's what I thought it was at first. So what you're saying is that if a game like Sonic The Hedgehog or Sonic 2 or whatever has a J, U and E at the end of its ROM title, then that means that if you were to set the Genesis emulator Gens to run as a Genesis from, say, Japan, then it would play the game as the Japanese Sonic version because that particular ROM has the Japanese, United States and European capabilities, and I take it that all three of those being bundled together into one single ROM is something that's been added by people other than Sega, in this case, because normally you find Sonic 1 and 2, for example, as being only a United States ROM or Japanese or whatever, but only one at a time, which is how I guess they were originally made and sold.
...Is...that right? Is that what you're saying? Please do correct me if I'm wrong.

Damn kids, J is japanese, U is usa, E is europe. The 7z zip comes with all versions of the game. remeber that a main purpose is to archive the games for historical purposes. Try castlvania Bloodlines for instance. the europe version is castlevania the new generation.
Anyway thats all the JUE in the file means.

But I'm not talking about 7zip files, Bulldogg. I'm talking about the many WinZip files I find on the Internet that have a J, U and E at the end of their file name, but when you unzip them, there's only *one* ROM file in them.

it has more to do with the region in which the copyright of the game is covered than the language. And some games have slightly different variations to account for censorship and cultural differences.

Sorry i was cranky last night, All the JUE means is what version of the game it is in, Say j for japanese is thats the version that was realeased in japan, E urope and so forth.very rarely you might find an R or GR for Russia or Greece. All it means is version. 99% of the time E is in english, its just the europe version. Thats all it means.

The [!] means best dump. The best working copy available. J/E/U Are as other people have said as far as I am aware. When I'm downloading snes/megadrive etc roms I always go for U! as they are usually the best (least likley to crash) roms to use. Hope this helps
