I'm not very skilled with tabalature (nor am I very fond of it; it's hard on the eyes and I like improvisation), but if anyone has trouble with knowing the chords of a certain song, especially 60's groups (I may be young, but that's my favorite genre of music, along with the '50's), I can help. I can help with capo fret postitions, etc., stuff like that. I'm thinking of featuring a "Song Of The Week" for everyone to learn; if it's not successful (with at least one reply a week), I'm going to abandon this thread. Shame, seeing guitar & video games all in one forum and no-one responding to the guitar section.

Uh, let's see...
The Beatles/The Rolling Stones/Jimi Hendrix Experience/Jefferson Airplane/The Doors/Lynyrd Skynyrd/Cream/The Who/The Animals/Dave Clark 5/Jethro Tull/The Band/BTO/The Yardbirds/Big Brother & The Holding Company/Country Joe & The Fish
*GASP* and that's all I can think of right now, but there's plenty more that I missed, I'm sure.

Well, if you like those bands, check out MC5 and Blue Cheer. Also, the Nuggets & Pebbles compilations of lesser known psych/rock bands from the sixties. Some of my favourite stuff on those albums. I've played electric guitar for more 15 years now- not that I've improved much in the last ten!

I have heard of Blue Cheer. I'm not nuts about their version of Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues," but the rest of their stuff is great.
As for the others you mentioned, haven't heard of them...I'll have to check 'em out! Thanks.
As for guitar playing, improving is about practice, practice, ugh. I'm sure you've heard that before! Getting the best guitar you can afford helps, too; I started on some real clunkers, and when I got my Stratocaster, I really appreciated the QUALITY.

I'm trying to think of a good format right now; and suggestions for songs would be helpful. I've got a few in mind right now, I've just got to figure out a method that looks presentable on a forum board; every time I do a song for my own use on notepad and such, it turns out looking like crap.

Hmm. Thanks for that. BTW, I posted this damn thread without thinking of this issue--
Copyright infringement???? I was thinking of doing the lyrics with the chords, and then remembered those fatal words:
"Lyrics can not be copied in any shape or form without express consent from the copyright owners."
And seeing as how the first song I was going to do turned out to be a Lennon/McCartney arrangement, I know there's a close eye kept on their catalog (even though Paul should own it, not frickin' Michael Jackson).
In short, does anyone know if it's OK to use lyrics on message boards? I guess I should have looked into this before I made this thread.

I also like the guitar; I have both acoustic and electric, though the electric is getting old and always "cracks" when I plug it in.

I don't see why you couldn't reprint lyrics. It's not like you're going to make any monetary profit out of doing this. |
Yeah. That first problem had me all befuddled with my Strat, too. I not only got the crackle plugging it in, all of the pot switches were doing the same thing (well expected, as it's a 1972 model!), some new switches and jack and some soldering were all it took; I didn't spend that much on it.
And thanks for the advice on the lyrics..I should have thought of that, but then, I'm senile.
I should have that song in a few days. Doctors appointments keep me busy this week
.
Well, I tried posting a song and had it all worked out, and somehow the site logged me out while I was in the middle of it. I'll have to try it some other time

Eh, is this the flaming thread?
I think not. Have some patience, I'm working on it.

Nope. To be honest, I've tried three times to post a song, and I hit the preview button, and it slides the chord letters (which I had precisely over each word in the song where you're supposed to change, and on the actual post, it slid all the chord letters onto the left side of the screen.
To make a long story short, this is going to be harder than I thought! I guess I'll have to:
A. Write down the lyrics in the text box.
B. Then make a seperate part of the post with a word with the chord over it, and hope people can figure that out.
(Unless someone has some better ideas)!

OK. I'll try messing around with the font in WordPad and see if I can just copy/paste it over. Thanks.
~EDIT~ Well, it took me awhile to figure it out, but the best way to do this is to use the Pro Tab method, chord-wise.
Example: [A]I love t[F#m]he RomNa[D]tion Web[E]site...
If everyone can understand this format, the song will be posted tomorrow, I promise. In fact, it's 1/2 of the way done, but, uh, I've been playing SMB 3 all day and it's time for bed.
