Nope, I can't do that. I can't do it because no one really knows. Sure there are guesses, you can search all the other IDSA threads for your answer but it shall forever remain a mystery.

Why they've chosen those game titles in particular is their business. Most of which due to the fact that they licenses banned are general in the respect that they cover all variations of any game in question eg. Zelda every single Zelda game be it NES or N64 GC you name it. Same w/Mario etc. So basically they're looking out for the market that still & will continue to sell on the shelves.

Those series are "signature" series and are still very much in production. As such, the copyrights hold more weight than average ROMs of games with characters that don't sell at all anymore.

Yes, but I have found other names that still sell, but I did not find them on the list, such as MegaMan...The Battle Network Series is still roaring on, and there's also going to be a second NetWork Transmission, not to mention the other 20 or 30 games that are already MegaMan...

Not sure about that one. I'm not sure where the get their ideas of which games are signature games. Top Gun and Doom certainly don't belong on the list. Ah well.

Who cares, really? You can find those ROMs elsewhere easily enough.

The reason that u cannot download idsa protected games is because the company still own the rights to those games. I mean, they still make games usin the same name. Sum companys dont make games anymore, so they dont care if ya download them. The games that r protected r usually like a series like final fantasy, mario (well, thats not a series), donkey kong, and anything other that is seemingly popular.

The reason some liscenses like Top Gun are on the list is because at any moment, a company can slap that name on a game, and make it sell more than it normally would. Just having that name is worth something to them. Same with being a Doom game.

As for some series like Mega Man, I have no clue; maybe Capcom doesn't care about their ROMs being downloaded? After all, the ROM market is one of the things keeping the Mega Man games (older ones) up and running (although it's possibly hurting sales of Mega Man Collections).

BTW, it's called the ESA now.

i dont understand why we cant link to rom/emulation sites, if this site is not hosted inside the US then there not bound by our laws. not only that but as long as this sites owner isnt hosting them he cant get into trouble, if we link to them just make sure its not for current systems.
and when i ask about it all i get is this

I think Anile considers it an insult to link to another site, when he's got 99% of what's out there. That's just my guess.

That, and of all the other major ROM sites out there, this is the only one that doesn't dump spyware and searchbars into your system.

ok look when did i ever say or act like i own this site, i wouldnt want to deal with it im busy enough as is.
its simple people like me question because we want REAL answers. if anile doesnt want us to link to emulation sites then at least he could do is say why. the main reason why everyone conciders that rule rediculus is because there is no reason why. thats all i ask is for a reason why.
and ya i think emuasylum is a better site, SO WHAT it was the first forum i joined. of course im going to feel partial to that particular corner of the web.
