1) Mega Man 2 - Opening Theme - NES
2) Zelda aLttP - overworld theme (a bit more beefy then the nes version's music) - SNES
3) Sonic 3 - the two player vs stage in the mine - Genesis
4) Super Mario Kart - all of these songs still get stuck in my head, mellow songs when they show the race results are especially good - SNES
5) Zelda OOT - "zelda's lullaby" - N64
6) SFII - Guile's theme - Arcade
7) Super Mario Galaxy - the score is good enough for a movie - Wii
8. Super Mario World - Castle song - SNES
9) Nights - first stage - Saturn
10) Super Mario Bros - underwater theme - NES

As for vid. game cover bands, you can't beat The Minibosses. They even have a great G.I. Joe theme cover!

As for greatest game themes:

I've been listening to The Silent Hill Scores for years and they are great. Especially #3.

Contra for both arcade and NES.

Super Metroid on the SNES.

The "music" for Metroid II on the Gameboy gives you a claustophobic feeling. Great for the game.

The underwater theme for SMB is great music!

I've always liked the music for Skitchin' on Genesis.

Both Fire Emblems on GBA.

for me, most of the Final Fantasy themes are just brilliant, catchy tunes.

aswell i liked the theme for the starting screen from Street Fighter II Champion Edition (didididingeldididingel...) Big Grin

more will follow after i got sure about which i really liked best :/

it gives me the heebie-jeebies* listening to the sf2 medley played by this really awesome video-game-cover band. i saw myself on vacation, in italy, in front of the "sala giocchi" (arcade hall, italian) when they played the first measures. lovely!

another gem i found:
Final Fantasy Medley

in my native language i would say "da is mir ein achterl abgangen!", word for word it would mean "there dispatched an eighth off of me!" (when i heard/saw that)....i liked it Roll Eyes

go to 1:40 for the "successful battle end theme" :o

The guilty gear ost's from all of the games are fantastic I have them all
Devil May Cry soundtracks to all 3 games again good stuff part 3 is my personal fav
