Thread: Need the ESA protected roms list |
|
|
Yeah, if you contact ESA or Nintendo they'll probably say ALL roms and emulators are TOTALLY ILLEGAL and we will SUE YOUR ASS and shit like that. I contacted Nintendo once out of curiosity, and they claimed even emulators are illegal (which they're not, since they're original works of code). I know anything zelda or mario is protected, pretty much any of the series that have a big brand name b/c they're more worried about games that might distract people from the latest and greatest Mario, etc. than people playing Binary Land or Spiritual Warfare.

I think if you're in need of medicine and help it would be more effective to try to network through people you know to provide more assurance that this isn't a scam. If a friend of mine came to me saying that a friend of theirs was sick I'd be a lot more trusting.
In any event, good luck but it looks like you're not going to convince a whole lot of people here to go to your site.

Unfortunately, the only person who could fix this is the site administrator, anile8. He's not around very often, so it is unilkely you'll be able to find it here in the near future. In the meantime, you can find working version of those ROMs at emucation.com

I just got some complaints from Doctor X about several of the posts in this thread, but I don't think that any of them really violate the site rules. It would be one thing if people were just out and out saying "I hope you die", but I think the concern here is that people have no way to verify your story. If you're genuinely sick you have my sympathy, but all the people here know is that you say you are, and that you have a site with little content beyond tons of ads and a pyramid scheme. Internet scams are pretty common, so I think it's reasonable that people have a hard time believing you. The apparent deception of creating a second account to support your primary, and your unwillingness to directly respond to any of the accusations (other than to say 'sorry you feel that way') make it very difficult for me to believe your story.
EDIT: Incidentally, another reason you come across as untrustworthy is that you set up a domain name which clearly implies it's about the PSP, but then express surprise that people make that assumption. Why would you choose that site name if not to fool people?

Thread: Problems with the Romnation website! |

I can't replicate the problem with either firefox or IE. You could check your security settings and make sure they're not too high (I think you can set images not to display by default). Clearing cookies and cache is a good thing to try too. What OS are you guys using? And what games specifically have you tried?

Yeah, it depends on the emulator, but you definitely need an emulator for the right system, and not every emulator plays every game for each system. Also, some emulators require you to unzip the ROMs before using them. Post what game/system you're trying to play and we can be more helpful.

Be sure to hit the download button with the left mouse button instead of right clicking and trying to save target as, or save link as. I just downloaded it and it's fine, assuming you're talking about the game for SNES (I checked both versions and they both have smc files).

Not risky to have it on your PC, risky to have it on a prominent emulation site. You've been around long enough to remember how many emulation sites got shut down years ago. These days the only ones who get harassed by the game companies are those who host current console games or ESA games. RN has nothing to gain by hosting the ROMs, and could potentially get shut down. That's all. I certainly have all the ESA protected games on my computer...

If you're already infected, use network associates' stinger to clean your machine up. I use their virus scan enterprise and have been happy with it.

Thread: Why isnt there a PC emulator? |
|
|
There are PC emulators for Mac, Linux, etc. If you really want to play a PC game on your PS2, rather than getting an emulator just get a TV-out video card for your PC and an adapter that lets you use an Xbox or PS controller as a PC gamepad. Then you can use your TV and game controllers for any PC stuff.

Stealing most ROMs is like stealing the nose from a leper, but stealing ROMs protected by the ESA is like stealing the nose from a leper with a cudgel. There's a bit too much risk to be worth it.
The reason the ROMs are still listed because it makes it clear to people searching for those games that we won't help them find them. Otherwise we'd get requests all the time saying (OMGWTF?! You don't even have super mario bros??!!) and people offering to upload them for us. In fact, that still happens, but this limits it a bit.
It isn't hard to find the games you're looking for if you're willing to spend some time looking around, but no one here is allowed to guide your search.

What system are you trying to download from? Make sure it's one we actually host here:

And while there may be a translated patch for clock tower, there's no all-purpose translating tool for ROMs, therr are just translation projects for individual games which take a lot of work and usually don't end up all that well...

Thread: Video game trivia |
|
|
I'm pretty sure the X-arcade contest has been over for about 5-6 years, but they just left the trivia up. I registered a few times several years ago, but it looks to be defunct.
A lot of the games you can figure out by context, but there are some really obscure ones that could fit any of the titles, so no one can get 550 every time. it's frustrating when you have a perfect game except one of the last two and it wrecks your score.
